The Magic Pool at Moonlight Falls
Barnaby was the smallest bull in the herd, with a heart bigger than his horns. While other bulls loved to charge and show their strength, Barnaby preferred counting stars and making wishes on dandelions.
One summer evening, when the moon painted the forest silver, Barnaby heard something mysterious—a splash, then a giggle. Following the sound, he discovered a hidden glade where a crystal pool shimmered like liquid moonlight. But the most magical sight was what stood beside it: a great brown bear with kind eyes, wearing a constellation-studded cloak.
"Welcome, Barnaby," said the bear in a voice like honey and thunder. "I am Bruno, guardian of the Truth Pool. This water shows not your reflection, but your heart's truest wish."
Barnaby trembled. What if his wish wasn't brave enough? What if the pool showed something silly?
"Go on," encouraged Bruno gently. "The bravest thing is knowing who you truly are."
Barnaby approached the pool's edge. The water stilled, and instead of his bull face, he saw something marvelous: himself, but reading storybooks to forest animals, painting rainbows on spiderwebs, and dancing with fireflies.
Bruno nodded wisely. "You see, little one, true strength isn't about charging and fighting. It's about having the courage to be exactly who you are—especially when who you are is wonderfully, magically different."
That night, Barnaby returned to his herd with his head high. The next morning, when other bulls prepared to charge, Barnaby instead organized a story hour. Soon, rabbits, foxes, and even the other bulls gathered round to listen.
Sometimes, if you visit the forest on moonlit nights, you might still see them: a gentle bull reading to rapt animals, while a great bear watches from the trees, smiling. And somewhere nearby, the magic pool shimmers, waiting for the next heart brave enough to seek its truth.
The end.
