The Magic Pool at Midnight
Lily loved playing in the pool, especially when she played padel with her father. But tonight, something magical happened.
As the moon rose high, Lily peeked through the window at the swimming pool below. A tiny goldfish popped its head above the water—and spoke!
"Psst! Come down! The magic begins at midnight!"
Lily tiptoed outside. To her surprise, her toy bull and toy zombie, usually sitting on the pool deck, were moving!
"I'm Ferdinand," said the bull gently. "And this is Zed. We come to life every night."
Zed the zombie waved his green hand slowly. "Brains? No, just friendship! I may look scary, but I'm just lonely."
The goldfish, whose name was Splash, said, "Tonight is special. The moon magic is strongest. Want to see something amazing?"
The pool water began to glow. Splash swam in circles, creating sparkling patterns of light.
"Make a wish!" cried Ferdinand.
Lily closed her eyes. "I wish... for friends who accept everyone, even if they're different."
The water swirled. A magical padel racket appeared, floating in the air.
"Pick it up!" said Splash. "This is the Racket of Friendship. Anyone who holds it becomes friends forever."
Lily grabbed the racket. It felt warm and tingly like sunshine. She handed it to Zed, who had been feeling sad because everyone thought he was scary.
Suddenly, Zed's green skin shimmered and became golden, like a happy glow. He smiled—a real, joyful smile.
"I'm not scary anymore," he whispered. "I'm just Zed."
Ferdinand the bull hugged his new friend. Splash the goldfish did a happy flip in the air.
"See?" said Lily. "The magic isn't the glow or the wishes. It's seeing what's inside someone's heart."
Every night after that, Lily would sneak down to the pool. She, Ferdinand, Zed, and Splash would play padel under the stars, laughing and splashing until the sun began to peek over the horizon.
And sometimes, if you look very carefully at midnight, you might see four friends having the best adventure of all—just being together.
