The Magic Pool Adventure
Lily's golden retriever, Buster, loved to splash in anything wet. Puddles, sprinklers, baths—he didn't care. But most of all, he loved the old swimming pool in Lily's backyard.
One hot summer afternoon, Lily was eating a sweet papaya by the pool when something strange happened. The water began to glow with sparkly blue light. Suddenly, a little green zombie popped out of the water!
But this wasn't a scary zombie. He had friendly purple eyes, a big smile, and wore a tiny red swim cap. "Hello!" he cheered. "I'm Zippy! I've been sleeping in this magic pool for one hundred years!"
Buster wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. Zippy laughed and did a backflip into the water. "Want to see something amazing?" Zippy asked.
He reached into the pool and pulled out a beautiful goldfish—but this goldfish could fly! It fluttered its fins like butterfly wings and zoomed around Lily's head.
"His name is Glitter," Zippy said. "He's magical, just like this pool. And just like papayas—they're magic too!"
Lily shared her papaya with Zippy. His eyes widened. "This tastes like sunshine and rainbows!" he exclaimed. "No wonder I slept so long. I was dreaming about papayas!"
They spent the rest of the day playing magical games. Glitter the flying goldfish taught Buster how to doggy-paddle through the air. Zippy showed Lily how to make bubbles that turned into tiny floating stars.
"Why were you sleeping so long?" Lily asked.
"I was lonely," Zippy admitted. "I didn't think anyone would want to be friends with a zombie."
Lily hugged Zippy's green hand. "Being different doesn't mean you're scary. It just means you're special."
Zippy smiled brighter than all the stars he'd made. "Will you come back tomorrow?"
"Every day," Lily promised. "Buster too."
That night, Lily fell asleep with papaya dreams in her head, knowing that magic was real, friends could be found anywhere—even in a backyard pool—and that the best adventures start with being brave enough to say hello to someone different.
Buster dreamed he was a flying goldfish. And somewhere in the magic pool, Zippy dreamed of papayas and the two new friends who had made his hundred-year nap worth it.
