The Magic Pool

Lily pushed her wild curly **hair** out of her eyes and knelt beside the old stone **pool** in her grandmother's garden. It had been dry for years, but today—after the morning rain—something sparkled at the bottom.

Her golden retriever Max bounded over, paws clicking on stone. A moment later, Muffin the gray cat crept from the roses, amber eyes wide. Usually Max and Muffin ignored each other. But today, they both stared at the puddle.

The water began to glow. Soft blue light swirled like captured starlight. Lily held her breath as the surface rippled though no wind stirred.

Suddenly, reflections appeared—not of the garden above, but of another world beneath. A castle made of crystals. Trees with leaves like diamonds.

"Jump in!" whispered a voice like silver bells.

Max whimpered excitedly. Muffin's fur stood up, but she stepped closer. Lily took her **dog**'s paw, then reached for her **cat**. Together, they stepped into the glowing **pool**.

Cold turned to warmth. Dark turned to light. When Lily opened her eyes, she stood in a meadow of flowers that sang when the breeze touched them. Max's fur shone like polished gold. Muffin's gray coat shimmered with rainbows.

A tiny fairy appeared, no bigger than Lily's thumb. "Welcome to the Pool of Wonders, where enemies become friends and impossible things become possible."

She sprinkled dust over them. "But remember—magic shared is magic multiplied. Magic kept for yourself fades like morning mist."

They spent what felt like hours exploring crystal caves and riding on the backs of giant butterflies. Max and Muffin played tag, something Lily had never seen them do at home. They weren't just pets anymore—they were friends.

When the fairy said it was time to leave, Lily understood. Some magic isn't meant to last forever. Its purpose is to transform us, then send us back different than we were.

Back in her grandmother's garden, the **pool** was just a puddle again. But Max and Muffin curled up together in the sun. And Lily knew that the real magic hadn't been the fairy world.

It was this: friendship blooms when we're brave enough to jump into the unknown together, hand in hand, paw in paw.
