The Magic Pool
Lily was the quietest girl in her class. While other children played tag at recess, she sat alone near the old **palm** tree in the schoolyard, tracing patterns in the dirt with her finger. The only friend she had was Buster, her scruffy brown **dog** who waited faithfully at the front gate every afternoon with his tail thumping a happy rhythm.
One hot Saturday, Buster tugged at Lily's shorts, barking excitedly. He led her behind the garage to a place she'd never noticed before—an old swimming **pool** filled not with ordinary water, but with liquid that shimmered like liquid rainbow.
"Buster, look!" Lily whispered, kneeling at the pool's edge. The **water** was impossibly clear, yet reflected stars that weren't in the daytime sky. Something magical was calling to her.
Buster barked twice, then dipped his paw into the pool. Ripples spread outward, and suddenly the water didn't just ripple—it began to glow. A voice bubbled up from the depths, warm and friendly: "Hello there. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."
Lily's eyes went wide. "Who— who are you?"
"I'm the Spirit of the Magic Pool," the water replied, forming itself into a shimmering girl made entirely of droplets. "I've been lonely for so very long. Will you be my **friend**?"
Lily placed her hand over her heart. Nobody had ever asked HER to be THEIR friend before. "Yes," she said softly but bravely. "I would love that."
The water-girl smiled and reached out her hand. When their fingers touched, Lily felt wonderful warmth spread through her whole body. Suddenly, she understood something important: she hadn't been making friends because she'd been too afraid to try.
"Thank you," Lily whispered, knowing this magical friendship had given her courage. She would be brave on Monday. She would talk to someone. She would make a real friend.
Buster barked happily, splashing into the magical water. The pool sparkled even brighter, as if smiling too.
Lily ran inside, her heart full of wonder. Some magic is real, and the best kind doesn't come from spells—it comes from opening your heart to others.
