The Magic Pool

Lily knelt by the edge of the old swimming pool in her grandmother's backyard, heart racing with excitement. The pool had been empty for years, but today something magical happened.

"Grandma said this pool only fills with moon water," Lily whispered to herself, dipping her fingers into the cool, shimmering liquid that appeared overnight.

Her iPhone buzzed in her pocket. Lily almost ignored it, wanting to stay in this moment of magic. But then she noticed something strange — tiny bubbles were rising from the deep end, and each bubble carried a soft, glowing light.

Lily pulled out her iPhone and discovered something amazing. Through the camera lens, she could see tiny mermaids swimming beneath the surface! They waved their sparkly tails and beckoned her closer.

"Come swim with us!" their voices seemed to bubble up through the water. "The moon water is only here until sunrise!"

Lily hesitated. She didn't have her swimsuit. But the mermaids looked so friendly, and their laughter sounded like wind chimes dancing in a breeze.

"Wait!" a small voice said. Lily looked down to see her kitten, Mochi, pawing at the water's edge. "Don't go alone!"

Lily smiled. "You're right, Mochi. Friendship means staying safe together."

The mermaids nodded approvingly. "Wise choice," they said. "True friends protect each other."

Instead, Lily sat at the edge and dangled her feet in the magical water. The mermaids told her stories about their underwater kingdom, where fish wrote poetry and whales sang lullabies to the stars.

As dawn approached, the pool began to shimmer and fade. "Thank you for visiting," the mermaids called. "Remember: magic is everywhere, but the best magic is the magic of friendship!"

Lily waved goodbye as the last drop of moon water disappeared. She looked at her iPhone photos — somehow, they captured the mermaids' sparkly tails and glowing smiles.

"See, Mochi?" she said, cuddling her kitten. "The best adventures are the ones we share with friends who care about us."
