The Magic Palm Tree's Secret

Lily loved her new iphone. She loved playing games and watching videos on its shiny screen. But today, her mom said, "Go outside and play!"

Lily sighed and walked to the park. There, she saw the oldest palm tree in the neighborhood. Its trunk was thick and brown, with green leaves dancing in the wind like friendly fingers waving hello.

"Hello, little friend," whispered a voice.

Lily looked around. No one was there!

"Up here!" The voice came from the palm tree above.

An orange squirrel sat on a branch, holding a bright orange fruit. "I'm Pip! Would you like to see something magical?"

Lily forgot all about her iphone. "Yes!"

Pip scrambled down the palm trunk. "This tree grows special oranges. When you share them with friends, they grant one wish."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Really?"

"But," Pip said, "you must give something in return. Something you love very much."

Lily thought hard. She loved her iphone, but she also loved adventures. And making new friends.

Suddenly, she knew what to do.

Lily climbed the palm tree with Pip's help. They shared the sweet orange together, and it tasted like sunshine and laughter.

"I wish," Lily said, "that every child could have a friend like Pip."

The palm tree shimmered with golden light. When it faded, Lily's iphone was still in her pocket, but something had changed.

Now, when she looked at her screen, she saw squirrels waving at her. When she played games, Pip appeared as a character. And every time she visited the palm tree, there was a new friend waiting—a blue jay, a butterfly, even a shy little turtle.

Lily learned that magic isn't about giving up what you love. It's about loving enough to share it.

And every orange from that palm tree tasted a little bit like friendship.
