The Magic Palm Tree's Gift

Lily loved the old palm tree at the edge of her grandmother's garden. Every afternoon, she would run across the grass just to sit beneath its drooping leaves and dream up adventures.

One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Lily pressed her palm against the tree's rough bark, it began to shimmer with golden light. Coconut-sized fruits popped into existence, glowing like tiny suns.

"Wh-what's this?" Lily whispered.

The palm tree's leaves rustled, though there was no wind. A voice echoed like gentle waves: "These are sunshine vitamins, child. They give you the power to help others."

Lily's friend Leo had been feeling weak and tired for weeks. He couldn't play, couldn't run, couldn't even smile much. The doctors couldn't figure out why.

"Take them," said the palm. "But they only work if you run all the way to Leo's house without stopping. Your running will wake up the magic inside."

Lily grabbed three glowing fruits and tucked them into her pocket. Her heart beat fast. She'd never run that far before.

But Leo needed her.

She took off running, her sneakers slapping the pavement, her breath coming quick. Her palm tingled where it had touched the tree. The magic vitamins in her pocket grew warmer with every step.

"I can do this," she panted, running past Mrs. Henderson's flower shop, running past the park where she and Leo used to swing. "For Leo."

Her legs ached. Her chest burned. But something kept her going—a warm glow spreading through her, making her strong.

Finally, Leo's house appeared. His mom led her to his room, where he lay curled under blankets, looking smaller than ever.

"Leo," Lily gasped, still catching her breath. "I brought something special."

He sat up slowly as she pressed a glowing fruit into his hand. "What is it?"

"A magic vitamin from a friend who loves you."

Leo took a bite. Golden light swirled around him. Color returned to his cheeks. Strength filled his eyes.

"Lily!" he shouted, jumping up. "I feel... wonderful!"

From that day on, Lily visited the palm tree often. And whenever someone needed help, she knew exactly what to do: press her palm to the bark, gather the magic vitamins, and start running toward her friend.

Because the real magic wasn't in the fruit at all—it was in never giving up on the people you love.
