The Magic Palm Tree's Gift

Lily loved her sparkly blue hat more than anything. It had belonged to her grandmother, who said it was filled with magic. One sunny afternoon, Lily wore her hat to the beach, where an old palm tree grew all alone at the edge of the sand.

Nobody ever went near that palm tree. The kids in town said it was haunted by a grumpy zombie who slept beneath its fronds. But Lily, being the bravest eight-year-old in the world, decided to investigate.

As she stepped closer, something groaned from under the palm leaves. "Oh no," a raspy voice said. "I'm so tired."

Lily peeked under the palm tree. There sat a small, green creature with messy hair and sleepy eyes. He looked kind of like a zombie, but not scary at all—just sad and exhausted.

"I'm not a real zombie," the creature sniffled. "I'm Zimby the magical helper. But I've forgotten what I'm supposed to help with."

Zimby explained that the magical palm tree used to drop special golden fruits, filled with sunshine vitamin that made everyone happy and healthy. But Zimby had been sleeping for so long that he'd forgotten his magic song, and now the palm tree wouldn't produce any fruit.

"Maybe my hat can help!" Lily said. She placed her sparkly blue hat on Zimby's head. "Grandma said this hat has magic."

Zimby's eyes widened. The hat started to glow! Suddenly, he remembered everything—his magic song, his dance, his purpose!

Zimby danced around the palm tree, singing a silly song about sunshine and friendship. The palm tree shook with joy, and golden fruits rained down from its branches. Each fruit was filled with sunshine vitamin that could make anyone feel better.

Lily and Zimby shared the golden fruits with everyone in town. The grumpy neighbor smiled for the first time in years. Tired parents danced with their children. Even old Mr. Jenkins did a little jig.

That day, Lily learned that sometimes the scariest things just need a little kindness and the right hat to become wonderful friends. And every morning, she and Zimby met under the palm tree to share sunshine vitamin and start their day with magic.
