The Magic Palm Tree's Gift

Lily loved the old oak tree in her backyard, but today she discovered something extraordinary. Nestled between the oak's roots sat a tiny palm tree, no taller than her knee, with shimmering silver leaves.

"How did you get here?" Lily whispered, kneeling beside it. The palm tree's fronds trembled, and a small door appeared in its trunk. Inside sat a mouse wearing a bright red hat.

"Hello!" squeaked the mouse. "I'm Pip, and this is my magic palm house. Would you like to see something amazing?"

Lily nodded, her eyes wide. Pip climbed onto her shoulder, his whiskery nose twitching against her cheek. "Hold my hat," he said, handing her the red hat. "Whatever you wish for while holding it will come true—but only once!"

Lily's hands trembled. She could wish for anything! Then she noticed her neighbor Tommy sitting alone on his front steps, looking sad. His hair fell over his eyes, hiding his tears.

"I wish..." Lily closed her eyes tight. "I wish Tommy had a friend to play with."

Suddenly, golden sparkles burst from the hat, swirling around Lily's backyard. When they settled, Tommy stood there, smiling.

"Did you call me?" Tommy asked. "I saw sparkles from my window!"

Lily grinned. "Want to see my magic palm tree?"

For hours, they played with Pip and the magical palm tree. The hat's magic had faded, but something better had appeared. Tommy pushed his hair back, laughing as Pip performed tricks with the shimmering leaves.

That night, Lily realized the best magic wasn't wishes—it was sharing adventures with new friends. And the tiny palm tree? It grew one inch taller, as if it were smiling too.
