The Magic Palm Tree
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every summer, she'd run straight to the backyard where a giant palm tree swayed in the warm breeze. Its long leaves whispered secrets when the wind blew.
One afternoon, Lily spotted something strange. Her grandmother's old straw hat was missing from the porch. Just then, her golden retriever Max began barking excitedly at the palm tree.
"What is it, boy?" Lily asked, following Max.
To her wonder, she saw the straw hat resting high among the palm fronds, as if the tree itself were wearing it. But what surprised her most was what happened next. The hat began to glow with a soft golden light!
A tiny fairy appeared — no bigger than Lily's thumb — with shimmering wings like a dragonfly's. "I'm Penny!" the fairy chirped. "Your grandmother and I planted this magic palm tree together when she was a little girl. It grants wishes to kind hearts."
Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Yes," Penny said. "But first, you must solve a riddle. What has water but never gets wet?"
Lily thought hard. She looked at the ocean in the distance, then at her grandmother's old swimming pool. "A pool!" she exclaimed. "Or... a reflection!"
"Correct!" Penny danced in the air. "Now, make your wish."
Lily looked at Max, who was getting older and couldn't run like he used to. "I wish for Max to feel young again, just for one perfect day."
The palm tree's leaves shimmered, and Max suddenly jumped up, barking joyfully. He ran in circles, puppy-like energy returning. Together, Lily, Max, and Penny played until sunset.
That night, Lily learned the best magic comes from kindness. The palm tree had taught her that true wishes aren't for things — they're for making others happy. As Max curled up beside her, Lily smiled, knowing some magic lasts forever in your heart.
