The Magic Palm Forest Game
Luna was a small orange cat with enormous green eyes and an even bigger curiosity. Every morning, she would creep through the tall grass until she reached the edge of the Magic Palm Forest, where trees with shimmering silver trunks grew leaves that glowed pink at sunset.
The forest was home to the most wonderfules game in the world — Forest Padel. Every evening, animals gathered around the Great Palm, the oldest tree in the forest, whose leaves could turn into magical racquets. Rabbits, squirrels, and even sometimes the bears would play, hitting glowing orbs made of moonlight back and forth.
But Luna was never invited. Cats were considered too sneaky to play fair games.
One evening, as Luna sat watching from behind a bush, she spotted something terrible. A mischievous fox named Rusty was creeping toward the Great Palm with a pair of garden shears!
"That tree gives us our magic racquets," Luna gasped. "If Rusty cuts it, the Forest Padel game will be ruined forever!"
Luna knew she should run away — foxes were dangerous, after all. But the Great Palm had given her shelter during last month's terrible storm. Its leaves had made a warm nest when she was lost and frightened.
The little cat crept silently through the shadows. Just as Rusty raised the shears to snip a glowing branch, Luna let out the tiniest, most perfect meow. Rusty jumped and dropped the shears with a clang!
"Who's there?" the fox called out, looking around nervously.
Luna stepped into the moonlight. "The Great Palm protects everyone who visits the forest," she said bravely, though her paws trembled. "Even foxes. Why would you hurt it?"
Rusty looked at his paws. "Nobody ever invites me to play Forest Padel. I thought... if I ruined the game, nobody would play at all. Then I wouldn't feel so left out."
Luna's heart softened. "I know how that feels. Cats never get invited either."
Rusty's ears perked up. "Really?"
"Really."
The fox picked up the shears and put them far away. Together, Luna and Rusty walked to where the animals were gathering for the evening game.
"This fox saved the Great Palm from a terrible storm," Luna announced to the surprised rabbits. "I think he deserves to play."
"And so does the bravest cat in the forest," Rusty added quickly.
That night, for the first time in forest history, a cat and a fox played Forest Padel together. Luna wasn't very good at hitting the moonlight orb, and Rusty kept tripping over his own tail. But under the glowing palm leaves, with new friends all around them, they had never felt more magical in their whole lives.
Because sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is invite someone to play — even if everyone else says they shouldn't be invited.
