The Magic Orange's Glow
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden. It was filled with flowers that sang when the wind blew and butterflies that left trails of glitter wherever they flew.
One afternoon, Lily spotted something strange near the old oak tree. A large brown bear sat motionless, staring blankly at nothing. His fur was matted, his eyes were dull, and he moved like a puppet with tangled strings – slow and jerky, like a zombie from her storybooks.
But Lily noticed something else. The bear held a single perfect orange in his paws, and every so often, a tiny spark of orange light would pulse from the fruit, then fade away.
"Are you okay?" Lily asked, stepping closer.
The bear turned slowly. "Help... me..." he said in a raspy voice. "Magic... orange... needs... friendship... to... work."
Lily understood. This wasn't a zombie bear – he was enchanted! The orange was magical, but it needed the warmth of friendship to unlock its power.
She sat beside the bear and placed her hand over his. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"Barnaby," he whispered.
"Nice to meet you, Barnaby. I'll be your friend."
As Lily spoke kind words and shared stories about her adventures, the orange began to glow brighter. The light wrapped around Barnaby like a warm blanket. His matted fur became soft and shiny. His dull eyes sparkled like stars. Most importantly, his movements became smooth and strong.
"The magic needed friendship," Barnaby laughed, standing up gracefully. "A grumpy wizard cast this spell on me because I never shared my honey. But you've taught me something important."
He gave Lily the magical orange. "Now this belongs to you. Whenever you see someone who needs help, let its glow remind you that kindness and friendship are the strongest magic of all."
From that day on, Lily carried the orange wherever she went. And whenever she saw someone lonely or sad – whether they were person, bear, or even someone who seemed scary like a zombie – she offered them friendship first. Because she learned that everyone needs someone to believe in them, and that's the most powerful magic in the world.
