The Magic Orange Friendship
Lily discovered an old iphone in her grandmother's attic. It had a cracked screen but still glowed with a mysterious purple light when she pressed the button.
"What are you doing up here?" called her friend Max, peeking around the door frame. He held a bright orange from his kitchen.
"Look at this!" Lily showed him the glowing phone. "It's showing me somewhere magical!"
On the screen, they could see a meadow filled with friendly creatures. They looked a little like zombies but instead of being scary, they were colorful and danced in circles.
"Those aren't zombies," Max whispered. "They're the Zom-Zom dancers from Grandma's stories! They live in the Magic Land Behind the Screen."
The creatures waved at them through the phone. One little green Zom-Zom looked sad though.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked softly.
The sad Zom-Zom held up a picture of a shiny orange and pointed to its mouth.
"They're hungry!" Max realized. "And I have this orange!"
Max peeled his orange and held it against the phone screen. Amazingly, the scent of sweet citrus drifted into the Magic Land. The Zom-Zoms cheered and did a happy dance!
The green Zom-Zom reached through the screen and took an orange slice. It munched happily, then gave Lily and Max the biggest smile they had ever seen.
"Thank you!" the creature seemed to say without speaking.
Lily understood something important that day. Sometimes things that seem scary or different just need a little kindness and maybe something as simple as sharing an orange.
"Maybe," she said, "we should visit our Zom-Zom friends tomorrow with more oranges."
"And maybe some other fruits too," Max added. "I bet they'd love to try new things!"
Grandma found them later, giggling at the phone. "Ah," she smiled, "you've discovered the Zom-Zoms. They've been waiting for someone to share with."
