The Magic of Millie's Goldfish

Lily loved her goldfish more than anything in the world. His name was Gilbert, and he lived in a sparkly blue bowl on her nightstand, always swimming round and round as if searching for something wonderful.

One night, when the moon was glowing like a giant pearl, Gilbert did something extraordinary. He swam to the top of his bowl and — POP! — turned into a tiny goldfish with fairy wings!

"Lily!" Gilbert chirped. "I can grant you three wishes! But you must choose them wisely."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Really?"

Gilbert nodded. "First, I need you to help me fix the old cable swing at the playground. It's been broken for months, and the children miss it terribly."

"But how can we fix it?" Lily asked.

"With magic, of course! But we'll need help from someone unexpected."

Gilbert led Lily to the spooky house at the end of the street. Everyone said a zombie lived there — a scary creature who groaned and stumbled around at night. Lily trembled but held Gilbert tight.

To her surprise, the "zombie" was just a lonely boy named Zeb who dressed up in old clothes because he wanted to look like the monsters in his favorite storybooks. He wasn't scary at all. He was just shy.

"I've been watching you from my window," Zeb admitted quietly. "You look like you need help with something."

Lily smiled. "We need to fix the cable swing at the playground. Can you help us?"

Zeb's face lit up. "My dad is an engineer! He taught me everything about cables and knots. I can help!"

Together, the three friends worked all night under the sparkly sky. Zeb tied perfect knots. Gilbert used his magic to make the cable strong and safe. Lily held the flashlight and sang songs to keep everyone cheerful.

By morning, the cable swing was better than new — it could swing higher and faster than ever!

"Thank you both," Gilbert said. "That was my first wish: to find true friends. And now it's come true!"

Lily realized she still had two wishes left, but she didn't need them anymore. She had something even better than magic — a new friend who wasn't scary at all, just lonely like she sometimes felt too.

From that day on, Lily, Gilbert, and Zeb played together every day. And whenever other children called Zeb a zombie, Lily would laugh and say, "That's not a zombie! That's my friend!"
