The Magic of Miller's Pond

Lily loved visiting Miller's Pond. Every Saturday, she would sit on the mossy bank and watch the dragonflies zip over the water like tiny flying jewels.

One hot afternoon, Lily's grandpa gave her a special gift — his old iPhone. He'd upgraded to a new one and thought Lily might like taking pictures of nature. Lily was thrilled! She ran straight to the pond, eager to capture the magic she saw there.

She sat down and pulled a sweet, juicy orange from her pocket. Lily loved oranges — how the spray would tickle her nose when she peeled them, how bright they looked against the green grass. She was just about to peel it when something magical happened.

A single orange segment slipped from her fingers and plopped into the water. Lily gasped, expecting it to sink. But instead, it floated! And something extraordinary followed — tiny ripples spread outward, glowing with a soft orange light that grew brighter and brighter.

Suddenly, the water around the orange began to shimmer. A little face poked up from beneath the surface — a small water sprite with hair like flowing rivers and eyes that sparkled like sunlight on waves.

"You dropped something wonderful," the sprite said, giggling. Lily was so amazed she nearly dropped the iPhone!

The sprite reached up and caught the orange slice. "I love oranges! They taste like sunshine!" The sprite took a bite and did a happy spin, creating a tiny whirlpool.

Lily remembered the iPhone in her hand. "Can I... can I take your picture?"

The sprite nodded enthusiastically. Lily clicked the button, and *snap* — the perfect photo appeared. But when Lily looked at the screen, something strange happened. The photo showed not just the sprite, but a whole underwater kingdom — crystal castles, fish with rainbow scales, and gardens of glowing seaweed.

"Will you be my friend?" the sprite asked. "My name is Ripple."

"Yes!" Lily cried. "I'm Lily."

Every Saturday after that, Lily brought an orange to Miller's Pond. She and Ripple became best friends, sharing stories and laughter. And sometimes, when no one else was around, Ripple would show Lily her magical underwater world, reflected on the iPhone screen like a window into wonder.

Lily learned that magic could be found anywhere — even in a simple orange, a quiet pond, or an old camera. You just had to look with an open heart.

The greatest magic of all, she discovered, was friendship — and that was something no camera could ever truly capture, though the picture of Ripple on her phone always made her smile.
