The Magic of Friendly Cove
Lily and Mia were best friends who loved spending summers at Friendly Cove. Every morning, they'd grab their padel rackets and play matches on the sandy court near the ocean. The whoosh-whoosh of the ball flying back and forth was their favorite sound.
One hot afternoon, after an especially exciting game of padel, they ran toward the sparkling blue water for swimming. The cool waves felt amazing after all that running! They splashed and laughed until Mia noticed something strange beneath an old palm tree at the edge of the cove.
"Lily! Look!" Mia whispered.
A green creature with messy seaweed hair sat slumped against the palm trunk. It looked sad and lonely. Lily gasped, "It's a zombie!"
But this zombie wasn't like the scary ones in stories. It seemed... stuck? Its eyes were dull, and its arms hung limp. The creature's palm was open, revealing a small, glowing blue shell.
"It's under a magic spell!" Lily said suddenly. "I remember my grandmother telling me about the mermaid's curse. When someone takes a mermaid's treasure shell without permission, they become a zombie until someone returns it with kindness."
The zombie blinked slowly, as if understanding them.
Mila approached gently. "We can help."
Together, the friends took the glowing shell from the zombie's palm. With all their might, they waded into deeper swimming water until Mia spotted something shimmering below. A beautiful mermaid!
"We found your shell!" Lily called, placing it gently on the surface.
The mermaid smiled and the water sparkled rainbow colors. She sang a beautiful melody, and suddenly, the green creature under the palm tree began to change. The seaweed turned into golden hair. The dull eyes brightened like stars. The limp body filled with energy.
"Thank you," the new person—a boy their age—said. "I was collecting shells for my sister when I accidentally took that one. The mermaid's spell lasted three days. Your friendship broke it."
From that day on, the three friends played padel, went swimming together, and always remembered: kindness and friendship could break any spell, even the most powerful ones. And whenever they sat under that old palm tree, they felt its magic wrapping around them like a warm hug.
