The Magic Night at Pyramid Pool
Leo and Maya loved building things in their backyard pool. One hot summer evening, they stacked floating foam blocks into a giant pyramid right in the middle of the water. It reached almost to the diving board!
"The Pyramid of Pool!" Leo declared. "Ancient Egyptians might have had swimming pools too!"
Maya giggled. "Maybe they had pool parties!"
As the sun set, storm clouds gathered. CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, striking a nearby tree. The pool water glowed with an eerie blue light.
Suddenly, the pyramid began to shake. A green hand poked through the foam blocks, followed by a drippy figure that climbed out and sat on the pool edge.
Leo gasped. "Is that... a zombie?!"
But this wasn't a scary zombie. It was a small, friendly creature with bright purple eyes and a smile made of pool noodles. "Hello!" it said. "I'm Zim! I've been stuck in that pyramid for a thousand years!"
Maya approached carefully. "You're not scary."
Zim shrugged. "I'm a pool zombie! I guard magical swimming pools. But I got lonely in there."
"Wait," Leo said, "you're not a scary zombie? You're a... FRIENDLY zombie?"
"The friendliest!" Zim splashed some water. "I just wanted someone to play with."
The three new friends spent the evening playing pool games, having races, and even building a smaller pyramid for Zim to sit on. As the storm cleared, the lightning flashed one last time—beautiful and magical.
"I have to go now," Zim said sadly. "But I'll always remember your kindness."
He disappeared in a sparkle of blue light. The foam pyramid settled back into the water, ordinary again.
"That was amazing," Maya whispered.
Leo smiled. "Sometimes things that seem scary at first... are just lonely friends waiting to be met."
From that night on, every time they saw lightning or built something in their pool, Leo and Maya remembered Zim—the friendly zombie who taught them that magic and friendship can be found in the most unexpected places.
