The Magic Mirror in the Woods
Lily was walking through the Whispering Woods when she heard something sniffle behind a big oak tree.
"Hello?" she called softly.
A brown bear poked his head out. He had the shaggiest, most tangled brown hair Lily had ever seen, with burrs and leaves stuck everywhere. Tears glistened in his kind brown eyes.
"Oh!" said Lily, not scared at all. "What's wrong, Mr. Bear?"
The bear sighed. "I'm lost. And I'm trying to find my friend Bella, but I can't remember what she looks like anymore. My memory is like autumn leaves — scattered everywhere."
Lily's heart felt warm. "I'll help you!"
But just then, something caught her eye. Glowing softly among the ferns lay an iPhone, its screen somehow still shining even though it had been in the woods for who knows how long. Magic crackled around it like tiny fireflies.
"Look!" Lily gasped. She picked it up and the screen flickered to life. Somehow, someway, it opened to the photo gallery — and there was Bella! She was a little girl with bright red hair and the biggest smile, hugging this very bear.
"That's her!" the bear cried happily. "I remember now! We're best friends!"
They ran through the woods together, following a path of glowing mushrooms until they found Bella sitting by a crystal stream, crying just like the bear had been.
"Barnaby!" she shouted when she saw them. She threw her arms around the bear's big fuzzy neck. "I thought I'd never find you again!"
"I brought him back," Lily said proudly.
Bella showed Lily something amazing — she could talk to animals, just like in fairy tales. The three of them sat by the stream as the sun set, painting the sky in pinks and golds, and they shared stories and laughter.
"Friendship," said Barnaby the bear wisely, "is the strongest magic of all. It can survive lost memories and dark woods and even lost iPhones."
Lily walked home that night with her heart full of wonder, knowing that true friends always find each other again — sometimes with a little bit of magic help.
