The Magic Lagoon Secret
Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every summer day, she'd rush to the crystal-clear lagoon behind her house, diving into the cool, sparkling water. It was her special place where she felt free as a fish.
One sunny afternoon, while Lily was practicing her underwater bubbles, she saw something strange floating near the old dock. At first, she thought it might be a log. But as she swam closer, she realized it was a person—or what used to be a person. It looked like a zombie, with pale green skin and slow, jerky movements.
Lily's heart thumped against her ribs. Zombies were supposed to be scary monsters from stories! But this zombie didn't look scary at all. It looked... lonely.
"Hello?" Lily called out, treading water. "Are you okay?"
The zombie turned its head slowly. Its eyes weren't scary at all—they were big and blue, filled with wonder. It opened its mouth and made a sound like bubbles escaping: "Blub... blub..."
Lily giggled. The zombie looked confused.
"I'm Lily," she said, swimming closer. "What's your name?"
The zombie pointed at itself. "Zzz... ZZZZ-ZOMBIE!" it blurted, then clapped its hands excitedly.
"Nice to meet you, Zombie!" Lily said. "Do you want to be friends?"
Zombie's face lit up like sunshine breaking through clouds. It had been so long since anyone had offered friendship, especially someone so kind and brave.
That summer, Lily and Zombie became the best of friends. They discovered that Zombie wasn't a scary monster at all—he was a magical water spirit who had forgotten how to play. Together they had wonderful adventures: racing fish, collecting shiny shells, and having tea parties on the lily pads.
Lily learned an important lesson that summer: sometimes things that seem scary or different just need a friend to see the magic inside them. And Zombie learned that friendship was the most powerful magic of all.
