The Magic in the Palm Tree

Lily sat under the old palm tree in her backyard, bored. She watched her goldfish, Sparkle, swim in tiny circles in the bowl beside her. Mom had given her the old iPhone to play with, but it wasn't fun anymore. She'd already taken fifty pictures of ants.

"I wish something magical would happen," Lily sighed.

Suddenly, Sparkle jumped—SPLASH!—right out of the bowl! But instead of flopping on the grass, Sparkle kept swimming... through the air!

"Lily!" the goldfish bubbled. "I need your help! The Great Bull has lost his way!"

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?!"

"Only when the magic is strong," Sparkle said. "Come, hold out your palm!"

Lily held out her hand, and Sparkle swam gently into it. Her scales shimmered like tiny stars.

"Look at your iPhone," Sparkle whispered.

Lily aimed the camera at the palm tree above them. Through the screen, she saw something amazing—a glowing bull made of stardust was tangled in the fronds! It looked sad and stuck.

"That's the Bull from the sky!" Sparkle explained. "Every hundred years, he comes down to rest, but this time he's tangled!"

Lily had an idea. She turned on the iPhone's flashlight and aimed it at the tree. The beam of light touched the Bull, and he began to glow brighter.

"Thank you, young friend," the Bull rumbled gently. "Your light has freed me!"

The Bull shook free from the palm fronds and soared upward, leaving a trail of sparkles. As he disappeared into the night sky, he became the brightest star.

"Thank you, Lily," Sparkle said, swimming back to her bowl. "You remembered that even small lights can help others find their way."

That night, Lily looked up at the stars and waved at the Bull. And sometimes, when she visits Sparkle, she still takes photos with her iPhone—because you never know when you might find magic waiting to be discovered.
