The Magic in the Glove

Caleb stared at his dusty baseball glove. It had been three weeks since he'd hit the ball even once.

"You'll never make the team," the neighborhood kids had laughed earlier that day.

Caleb sat alone in his backyard, tossing his baseball up and catching it. Thwack. Thwack. Each catch felt heavier than the last. Tears stung his eyes.

"I wish I was magical," he whispered. "I wish I could be brave like the heroes in my storybooks."

That's when he noticed it—a tiny splash inside his glove. A bright orange goldfish was swimming in the leather pocket of his mitt!

"Hello there!" the goldfish chirped. "I'm Finnigan! I've been waiting for someone with a brave heart."

Caleb gasped. "You can talk? But you're a fish! And you're swimming in my baseball glove!"

"I'm a MAGICAL goldfish," Finnigan explained proudly. "And I need your help. My friend Cloud is in big trouble!"

"Cloud?" Caleb asked.

"He's a bull," said Finnigan. "A giant, grumpy bull who lives in the clouds above our town. He's lost something very important—his courage vitamin! Without it, he's too scared to come down and visit the children who want to play with him."

Caleb's eyes widened. "A bull in the clouds? And he lost his courage vitamin?"

Finnigan nodded solemnly. "It's not a normal vitamin. It's a magical golden pill that makes even the scarediest bull feel brave. But a grumpy storm blew it away, and now Cloud is all alone."

Caleb stood up, his baseball forgotten. "I'll help you find it! But... how?"

"With THIS!" Finnigan swished his tail, and suddenly Caleb's baseball began to glow golden. "Throw it toward the clouds, and it will lead us to Cloud!"

Caleb threw the baseball with all his might. WHOOSH! It soared higher and higher, turning into a golden streak in the sky. Finnigan's magic swirled around them, and suddenly Caleb was floating upward, higher than the tallest tree, higher than the houses, until they reached a fluffy cloud meadow.

There sat Cloud—not scary at all, but a gentle bull with the softest brown eyes. He looked lonely.

"Nobody wants to play with a bull who's afraid of everything," Cloud sighed.

"We're here to help!" Caleb said. "Where did you last see your courage vitamin?"

Cloud pointed with his nose toward a smaller cloud where something sparkled. "There it is! But I'm too scared to reach it. What if I fall?"

Caleb smiled. "You don't have to do it alone. We'll help you!"

Together, Caleb and Finnigan guided Cloud across the fluffy clouds. When Cloud trembled, Caleb held his giant hoof. When the wind blew, Finnigan swam in the air beside them, shining like a tiny orange star.

At last, Cloud's nose reached the sparkling golden vitamin.

"I... I did it," Cloud whispered, his eyes growing bright. "I feel BRAVE!"

"That's because you were brave the whole time," Caleb said. "You faced your fear even though you were scared. That's what real courage is!"

Cloud's happy snort sent a breeze through the clouds. "Thank you, Caleb! Will you and your friends come visit? I promise to play gently!"

"YES!" Caleb cheered.

Finnigan's magic brought Caleb back to his yard, his baseball glove waiting beside him. But now something was different—the glove held a golden glow.

At practice the next day, Caleb stepped to the plate. He remembered Cloud's courage, took a deep breath, and swung.

CRACK! The ball flew over the fence—a home run!

His teammates rushed to celebrate, and Caleb smiled secretly at his glove. He knew that somewhere above, a bull and a goldfish were cheering for him too.

Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is help someone else find their courage. And that magic? It stays with you forever.
