The Magic in Mama's Pocket
Seven-year-old Toby sat at the kitchen table, staring at the small orange tablet on his spoon. His mama called it a "vitamin" — the secret medicine that made bones strong and bodies healthy. But Toby thought it looked suspiciously like a piece of the sunset that had fallen into his hand.
"Take it, sweet pea," Mama said, gently tapping her iPhone against the table. "The bear at the zoo didn't eat his vitamins, and now he's too tired to play with the other bears."
Toby perked up. "The bear needs vitamins too?"
"All growing creatures do," Mama winked.
That night, as Toby clutched his vitamin tight, something magical happened. The tablet began to glow like a tiny orange star. Suddenly, he was no longer in his bedroom but standing in a moonlit forest, where enormous trees whispered lullabies to the sleeping flowers.
Before him sat the most magnificent bear Toby had ever seen. Her fur was the color of midnight, sprinkled with stars like the night sky itself. But she looked terribly sad.
"I'm Bella," the bear spoke, her voice like honey and warm tea. "My cub Leo is sick because he won't take his forest vitamins. They taste like berries and sunshine, but he's afraid."
Toby's heart swelled with understanding. Taking vitamins could be scary!
"I have an idea," Toby said, remembering something on his mama's phone. "In my world, we make vitamins fun by calling them 'power-up stars' — just like in the games!"
Bella's eyes sparkled. "Power-up stars?"
Together, they crept to Leo's cave. The little bear was curled in a ball, looking miserable. But when Toby showed him how to pretend the vitamins were magical stars that gave him bear-powers, Leo's eyes widened with wonder.
"Rawr!" Leo roared after taking his vitamin. "I feel strong!"
Bella nuzzled Toby's cheek with her soft nose. "Thank you, little friend. You're braver than any bear I know."
As Toby faded back to his bedroom, he found something in his pocket — a single star fur, soft and glowing. His vitamin sat on his nightstand, no longer scary, but magical.
The next morning, Toby swallowed his vitamin without complaint. He had learned something wonderful: sometimes the bravest thing you can do is help someone else find their courage. And that, he knew, was the most powerful magic of all.
