The Magic in Lucas's Palm
Lucas hated spinach. Every dinner, his grandma's garden-fresh spinach sat on his plate like a sad green mountain.
"It'll make you strong," Grandma always said.
One summer afternoon, Lucas stomped into Grandma's garden, ready to hide his spinach in the compost pile. But as he reached for a leaf, something strange happened. The spinach began to glow with a soft emerald light!
Curious, Lucas picked up the glowing leaf. As it rested in his palm, a warm tingling spread through his fingers. Words appeared in his mind: *Make a wish, but make it true.*
Lucas looked at the backyard pool, its blue surface shimmering in the sunlight. He'd always wanted to swim like a fish, explore the underwater world. "I wish I could breathe underwater," he whispered, closing his palm tight around the spinach.
Suddenly, the leaf dissolved into golden sparkles that swirled around Lucas. He felt light as air! The sparkles pulled him toward the pool, and instead of falling in with a splash, he slid beneath the surface as smoothly as an otter.
But this wasn't just his pool anymore. The water had transformed into a crystal-clear palace filled with rainbow-colored fish and towers made of coral. A tiny green dragon with silver wings zoomed toward him.
"Welcome!" the dragon chirped. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to try the magic spinach!"
Lucas spent hours exploring this hidden kingdom. He raced with flying fish, played hide-and-seek with mermaids, and helped the dragon find her lost treasure chest. For the first time, Lucas realized that being brave meant trying new things – even spinach.
When he finally climbed out of the pool, the dragon pressed a small emerald scale into his palm. "Come back anytime. Magic belongs to those who believe in it."
That evening at dinner, Lucas smiled at the spinach on his plate. Grandma's eyes widened as he ate every bite.
"Spinach actually makes you strong?" she asked.
Lucas touched his pocket where the emerald scale lay warm against his palm. "Grandma, you have no idea how strong it can make you."
