The Magic in Lily's Palm
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's beach house. The sand was warm beneath her bare feet, and the tall palm trees swayed like friendly dancers in the breeze.
One afternoon, a storm approached. Dark clouds gathered like woolly gray blankets. Lily's dad had left his iPhone on the porch table while he helped Grandma bring in the laundry.
"Don't touch it," her big brother had warned. "It's expensive."
Lily didn't want to touch it. But suddenly, a brilliant flash of lightning zigzagged across the sky — KRAKKA-BOOM! — and struck the palm tree right beside the porch.
The whole world seemed to glow. Rain began to fall, sparkling like diamonds. And something amazing happened: tiny blue creatures, no bigger than fireflies, popped out from the iPhone screen! They giggled and darted around, leaving trails of light like mini lightning bolts.
"Who are you?" Lily whispered.
"We're the Storm Sprites!" one chirped. "The lightning magic woke us up!"
They danced across her palm, leaving warm tingles, like holding a handful of sunshine. More sprites emerged from the rain puddles, riding on droplets like tiny surfers.
"Make a wish!" they sang together.
Lily closed her eyes. "I wish everyone could see magic like this."
The Storm Sprites spun around her, creating a rainbow in the rain. When they disappeared back into the water and the phone, something wonderful had changed. The whole neighborhood looked brighter, more colorful, as if everyone had suddenly noticed the magic that had been there all along.
That evening, Lily's dad picked up his iPhone. "Funny," he said, tapping the screen. "I could have sworn my screensaver was different."
Lily just smiled, pressing her palm where the sprites had danced. Some magic was meant to be kept secret, shared only between a girl and a storm.
