The Magic Hat's Secret

poolhatfriend

Lily loved her grandmother's old blue hat. It was too big, and it slipped down over her eyes whenever she wore it. But Grandma had whispered, 'This hat knows secrets.'

One summer afternoon, Lily wore the hat to the park. Suddenly, it tugged her head—pulling her toward the overgrown bushes behind the swings. The hat knew something!

Lily pushed through the leaves and gasped. A crystal-clear pool shimmered before her, hidden like a treasure. But this was no ordinary pool—tiny fish with rainbow scales darted through water that sparkled like diamonds.

'You found my home!' squeaked a small voice. A water sprite popped up, no bigger than Lily's hand, with translucent wings that caught the sunlight.

'Your pool is magical!' Lily cried.

'Only for true friends,' the sprite said. 'Are you a friend?' Lily nodded enthusiastically. The sprite grinned. 'Then make a wish!'

Lily closed her eyes. 'I wish everyone could see this beautiful place.' The pool bubbled, and suddenly the hat glowed with blue light.

'Wear this hat, and you'll always find magic,' the sprite promised. 'But share its secrets—that's what friends do.' Lily understood: the best adventures are the ones you share.

Now Lily and the sprite meet by the pool every summer. And sometimes, Lily lets other children wear the magic hat—because friendship, like magic, grows when you share it.
