The Magic Hat's Secret

hatfriendiphonepool

Lily found the old floppy hat in her grandmother's attic. It was purple with yellow stars, and when she put it on, something magical happened.

"Whoooosh!" The hat spun around her head like a tiny tornado.

Suddenly, Lily's friend Mia burst through the attic door. "Lily! My mom says we can go to the pool!"

But the moment Mia stepped inside, the hat began to glow. The wooden attic floor rippled like water, and within seconds, they weren't in an attic anymore—they were standing beside the most beautiful swimming pool Lily had ever seen.

The pool wasn't filled with water. It was filled with shimmering stars that twinkled and danced.

"Whoa!" Mia breathed. "Where are we?"

Lily's iphone, which had been in her pocket, suddenly floated out of her shorts and hovered over the star-pool. The screen lit up with a message: *Welcome to the Star Pool. Make a wish together.*

"A wish?" Lily asked.

The stars in the pool swirled into the shape of two hands reaching for each other.

"I wish..." Mia said softly, "that we could be best friends forever."

Lily nodded. "I wish that too."

The stars exploded upward like a fountain of light, showering them with sparkles that felt like warm hugs. When the sparkles faded, they were back in the attic, the old purple hat still on Lily's head.

Mia's phone beeped. It was her mom. "Time to go to the real pool!"

Lily took off the magic hat and placed it gently back on the shelf. "The hat showed us something important."

"What?" Mia asked.

"That the best magic isn't in stars or wishes," Lily said, taking Mia's hand. "It's having a friend who wants to stay friends forever."

Mia grinned. "That's better than any magic hat."

And as they ran downstairs to the real pool, neither noticed the purple hat give one last little sparkle, as if winking at them.

Some magic, after all, is real.
