The Magic Hat of Friendship

Lily's favorite purple hat blew right off her head! Whoosh! It tumbled through the sunny park, with her brown hair flying everywhere.

"Barky, fetch!" she called to her fluffy dog. Barky's ears perked up and he bounded after the hat, his tail wagging like crazy.

The hat landed near an old oak tree. But when Lily and Barky caught up, someone else was holding it—a boy with green skin, messy black hair, and clothes that looked terribly old.

"Thank... you..." he said slowly, handing her the hat. His voice sounded funny, like words stuck in honey.

Lily's eyes went wide. "Are you... a zombie?"

The boy nodded sadly. "Everyone... calls... me... that. But... my... name... is... Zom."

Zom explained that a grumpy wizard had cast a spell on him, making him move slowly and speak slowly, too. All the other children ran away, scared. But Zom just wanted to play.

Lily looked at her dog, who was happily licking Zom's hand. "Barky isn't scared!"

Zom smiled, showing crooked but kind teeth. "Your... dog... is... wise."

"I have an idea!" Lily said. She reached into her bag and pulled out her padel racket. "Let's play! The spell might break if you have too much fun!"

They played padel all afternoon. At first, Zom could barely hit the ball. But soon, he was laughing and running faster and faster. With every giggle, his green skin faded. With every happy shout, his voice became clearer.

By sunset, Zom's skin was pink again, and he could talk normally! The wizard's spell had broken completely.

"Thank you, Lily!" Zom cheered, giving her a big hug. "You and Barky are the best friends ever!"

Lily placed her purple hat back on her head, grinning. Sometimes, the scariest-looking monsters just need someone brave enough to say hello—and a magical game of padel helps too!

From that day on, Lily, Zom, and Barky played together every day, proving that friendship is the strongest magic of all.
