The Magic Hair Friend

hairdogfriend

Lily had the most unusual hair in her whole class. It wasn't curly or straight, brown or blonde. It changed colors like the sunset – pink at breakfast, purple by lunch, and sparkly silver when the moon rose. But Lily didn't have anyone to show it to. She had no friend.

One afternoon, while sitting alone at the park, a tiny dog with shaggy fur wandered over. His left ear stood straight up, while his right ear flopped down. His tail wagged like a happy metronome.

"Hello there!" Lily said, surprised that the dog approached her. Usually, animals shied away from her strange, color-changing hair.

The dog sniffed her hair curiously and let out a small yip, as if saying, "Tell me more!" His nose glowed softly when he touched her pink strands.

"You can see the magic?" Lily whispered. The dog nodded – yes, actually nodded!

Suddenly, Lily's purple hair began to sparkle brighter than ever. The dog's fur shimmered too, and he grew larger! Soon he stood as tall as Lily, with wise, golden eyes.

"I am Barnaby," he spoke in a rumbly voice. "I've been searching for a magical child whose heart is as colorful as her hair. The Magic Forest needs help."

Lily's eyes widened. "Me? Help?"

"The Rainbow Bridge has faded," Barnaby explained. "Children have forgotten how to dream big dreams. We need someone whose imagination shines bright enough to restore it."

Lily grabbed Barnaby's paw. "Let's go!"

Together they ran through a secret door in an old oak tree, into a forest where trees bore fruit-shaped wishes and flowers sang lullabies. At the broken bridge, Lily concentrated with all her might. Her hair blazed every color of the rainbow, stretching magical strands across the gap.

The bridge bloomed with light, stronger than before!

"You did it!" Barnaby cheered. "Will you be my friend? We have much adventuring to do."

Lily beamed, her hair turning a brilliant happy gold. "Forever and always!"
