The Magic Green Vitamin

Barnaby was a small golden dog with floppy ears and a very big problem. He lived with Lily, a girl who loved him more than anything in the world. But lately, Lily had been very sad, and Barnaby didn't know how to help her.

Every day at dinner, Lily's mother would place a small pile of green leaves on her plate. 'Eat your spinach,' she would say gently. 'It's full of good things to help you grow strong.' But Lily would only poke at it with her fork, her face scrunching up like she'd tasted something sour.

One evening, Barnaby decided he had to do something. Being a clever dog, he had been watching the old woman who lived next door. She was a scientist who mixed special powders and liquids in her laboratory. Yesterday, Barnaby had seen her drop something shiny and glowing into her garden.

That night, when everyone was asleep, Barnaby crept outside. His nose twitched as he sniffed the air, following a faint sparkly trail to the neighbor's garden. There, buried beneath a moonflower, he found a tiny vial containing a single glowing vitamin that shimmered like a captured star.

Barnaby carefully carried the magical vitamin back to his house in his mouth. He placed it gently on top of the spinach in Lily's lunchbox, then curled up beside her bed to sleep.

The next morning, Lily opened her lunchbox at school and gasped. The spinach wasn't just green anymore — it sparkled with tiny rainbows! When she took a brave bite, something wonderful happened. The leaves tasted like sunshine and adventures, like exploring hidden caves and flying on dragon wings.

With every bite, Lily felt braver and stronger. That afternoon, she stood up to a bully who was teasing her friend. She helped her teacher carry heavy books. She even taught Barnaby a new trick!

'How did you do that?' her mother asked that evening, amazed to see an empty spinach dish.

Lily smiled, scratching Barnaby's head. 'I learned that good things might look scary at first, but once you try them, they can give you magic powers.' She didn't mention the glowing vitamin, but she suspected Barnaby had something to do with it.

From that day on, Lily never feared trying new things. And Barnaby, the little golden dog, learned that sometimes the best magic comes from helping someone you love be brave.

The magic vitamin eventually faded away, but Lily didn't need it anymore. She had discovered the real magic was inside her all along — just waiting to be awakened by a single act of courage.
