The Magic Goldfish Wish
Barnaby the bear sat by the sparkling pond, watching his reflection shimmer in the water. He wanted to go **swimming**, but bears are heavy and clumsy in water. Or so his brothers had told him.
"Why the long face?" asked a tiny voice.
Barnaby peeked closer. A tiny **goldfish** with scales like sunset-orange jewels was staring right at him!
"I'm Barnaby. I wish I could splash and play like you," he sighed.
The goldfish swirled in a magical spiral. "I'm Finnegan the Fortunate. I grant one wish each summer to someone kind."
Barnaby's eyes widened. "Really?"
Just then, a fluffy brown **dog** named Dottie burst from the bushes, chasing a butterfly. She spotted them and bounded over, her tail wagging like a metronome.
"What's happening? Can I wish too?" Dottie asked breathlessly.
Finnegan giggled, bubbles rising to the surface. "One wish between friends, but you must share it wisely."
Barnaby looked at Dottie, who could already swim perfectly. Then he had an idea.
"I wish we could ALL play together in the water!" Barnaby declared.
Finnegan did a joyful flip. "A friendship wish! The very best kind!" He reached into the pond's depths and pulled out a glowing pearl. "Take this magic **vitamin**. It's actually courage—and it only works when shared."
Barnaby swallowed the pearl. Nothing happened. He felt disappointed.
"You have to share it," Finnegan reminded him.
Barnaby took Dottie's paw. "Will you help me?"
"Always!" Dottie promised.
Together, they stepped into the pond. Barnaby didn't sink. He didn't struggle. With his friend beside him, he discovered bears CAN swim—they just need someone to believe in them first.
That summer, the three friends played together every day. Barnaby learned that some wishes come true not through magic, but through friendship, courage, and a little help from someone who believes in you.
And sometimes, that's the greatest magic of all.
