The Magic Goldfish's Padel Dream
Finley was no ordinary goldfish. While other fish swam in lazy circles, Finley pressed his shiny orange nose against the glass of his classroom aquarium, watching the world beyond.
One rainy Tuesday, something wonderful happened. A student dropped her iPhone right near Finley's tank. Through a crack in the glass, a single drop of water touched the phone's screen—and suddenly, Finley could see everything on it!
He watched videos of children playing padel, a exciting game like tennis but with smaller courts and special walls. Finley had never seen anything so magical! The players ran and jumped, hitting the blue ball with their paddles. "I wish I could play," Finley dreamed, swimming excitedly around his castle.
That's when he noticed Lily, the quietest girl in class, sitting alone near his tank. She was watching padel videos on her own phone, her eyes sad.
"Do you like padel too?" Finley wished he could ask. But he could only blow bubbles.
Lily seemed to understand. "Hello there, little friend," she whispered, tapping the glass gently. "I'm scared to join the padel team. Everyone else is so good."
Finley swam a happy flip—his way of saying, "You can do it!" Every day that week, Lily visited Finley, sharing her hopes and fears. And every day, Finley did his most enthusiastic swimming, jumping through his hoop and zooming around his treasure chest.
"You're right," Lily said Friday, her eyes bright. "If a brave little goldfish can leap through hoops, I can at least try!"
The following week, Finley watched from his tank as Lily joined the padel practice. She missed some balls. She tripped once. But she kept trying, just like Finley had kept swimming to learn his tricks.
Something magical happened that season. Lily became one of the best players on her team, always encouraging others who were struggling.
"Thank you, my fishy friend," she told Finley after her first match. "You taught me that being brave means trying even when you're scared."
Finley swam his happiest loop-de-loop. Some days he still dreamed of playing padel himself. But helping a friend find her courage? That was even better than any game.
