The Magic Goldfish Phone

goldfishiphonefriend

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house. The best part was the big glass fish tank in the living room, with three shiny goldfish swimming inside. They were orange like sunset, with fins that flowed like ribbon in the water.

One rainy afternoon, Lily was playing with her mother's iPhone when something strange happened. She held the phone up to the fish tank to take a picture, but suddenly the screen began to glow! Tiny bubbles floated out from the glass, and the phone became warm in her hands.

"Hello there!" said a tiny voice.

Lily looked around. No one was there.

"Down here! In the phone!"

She peeked at the screen. One of the goldfish — the biggest one with sparkly scales — was swimming right there ON the iPhone screen! But it wasn't just a picture. The fish was looking right at her.

"I'm Finley," the goldfish said. "And you must be Lily. I've been waiting for someone to find me."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"

"Only special children can hear me," Finley said. "Children with big imaginations and kind hearts. Would you like to see my world?"

Lily nodded yes.

Finley swam in a circle, and suddenly the iPhone screen became like a magical window. Through it, Lily could see an entire underwater kingdom! There were castles made of colorful coral, seashells that chimed like bells, and fish with scales that sparkled like diamonds.

"This is beautiful!" Lily whispered.

"It's my home," Finley said. "But I'm lonely here. Most fish swim away because I'm different. I can do magic, you see. That's how I can talk to you through your phone."

"I think being different is wonderful," Lily said. "My friend Emma at school has braces, and she says they make her special. Being unique is what makes us interesting."

Finley smiled — fish can smile when they're magical! "Would you be my friend, Lily? Even though I'm a fish?"

"Yes!" Lily exclaimed. "Friends can be anyone who makes you happy."

Every day that summer, Lily visited Finley through the magic iPhone. They played games, told stories, and Finley showed her amazing secrets of the underwater world. He taught her that real friendship doesn't care about what someone looks like or where they come from.

On Lily's last day at grandmother's house, she kissed the iPhone screen goodbye.

"Don't be sad," Finley said. "Real friends never truly say goodbye. They live in your heart forever."

That night, Lily dreamed of swimming through coral castles with her best friend Finley. And when she woke up, she found a tiny golden scale on her pillow — Finley's special gift so she would never forget him.

Some friendships are magic, Lily learned. The best ones can swim through glass screens and live in your heart forever.
