The Magic Garden Surprise
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. Every afternoon, she'd put on her favorite floppy blue hat and set off on adventures among the flowers. One sunny day, she spotted something strange near the orange tree.
A small, green figure was slumped against the trunk. Its arms dangled loosely, and it moved slowly, step by dragging step. Lily's eyes went wide. It looked like what she'd seen in her brother's comic books—a zombie!
But this zombie wasn't scary at all. It was made entirely of woven vines and leaves, with bright orange flowers for eyes. It reached toward the lowest orange with a slow, sad motion.
"Are you hungry?" Lily asked. The little zombie nodded its leafy head.
Lily picked the orange and gently placed it in the zombie's vine-woven hands. The figure's orange flower eyes seemed to sparkle. Slowly, it began to transform. The sagging vines straightened up. A smile appeared on its mossy face.
The zombie did a happy little dance and pressed the orange into Lily's hands. When she peeled it open, it was filled with tiny, glowing seeds that floated up like golden fireflies.
"Thank you," she whispered.
Every day that summer, Lily returned with her hat and an orange for her friend. And every time, the garden zombie rewarded her kindness with a new magic trick—floating flowers, singing butterflies, or glowing lemonade.
Lily learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend—and an orange—to show their true, wonderful selves.
