The Magic Garden Surprise
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the backyard with its mysterious old pool. It wasn't a swimming pool – it was a round stone basin filled with rainwater, where birds came to splash and drink. Grandma called it her wishing pool.
One sunny afternoon, Lily noticed something strange growing near the pool's edge. Bright green leaves that looked just like spinach were sprouting overnight. But these weren't ordinary vegetables – they shimmered with tiny sparkles, like someone had sprinkled fairy dust on them.
Grandma smiled when Lily pointed them out. "Ah, you've found the magic spinach! It only grows when someone with a kind heart visits."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "Magic spinach? What does it do?"
"Watch and see," Grandma said, handing her a small orange from the nearby tree. "Place this beside the leaves and make a wish."
Lily carefully set the orange next to the sparkling green leaves. She closed her eyes tight and wished for something wonderful.
Suddenly, the orange began to glow golden! Then something amazing happened – the orange rolled toward the magic spinach, and the spinach leaves wrapped around it like a warm hug. The stone pool's water began to bubble and sparkle.
From the water emerged a tiny dragon, no bigger than a kitten, with scales that shone like orange jewels and wings like green spinach leaves. The little dragon flew to Lily's shoulder and nuzzled her cheek with a nose like a soft peach.
"Your wish created a friend," Grandma explained. "The magic spinach brought your orange to life, and the wishing pool gave it spirit."
Lily named her dragon Sparky, and they spent the afternoon playing games by the pool. Sparky could make the most beautiful bubbles that smelled like orange blossoms, and when he flew, his wings left trails of sparkly green like floating spinach leaves.
That day, Lily learned that the best magic comes from kindness and friendship. Sometimes, the most wonderful surprises grow from the simplest things – even from what seems like ordinary spinach and orange, especially when shared with love.
Every summer after that, Lily returned to find Sparky waiting by the wishing pool, ready for more adventures together.
