The Magic Garden Pool
Lily pushed her plate away. "No spinach," she said, crossing her arms. "It's too green and yucky."
Her grandmother just smiled. "Maybe you need a little magic, then. Let's visit the old garden pool."
The pool wasn't like any swimming pool Lily had seen. It was hidden among flowers that glowed softly in the evening light, and the water shimmered like liquid rainbow. As Lily leaned closer, something splashed!
A tiny goldfish popped up, but this goldfish was special—its scales sparkled like tiny stars, and it had a little crown made of water drops.
"Hello, brave one," said the goldfish in a voice like bells. "I'm Finn, and I've been waiting for someone who needs my magic."
Lily's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"
"I can do many things," Finn said. "But my magic only works for those who try new things. Like..." He nodded toward the garden. "The magical spinach that grows here."
Lily shook her head. "But I hate spinach!"
"That's because you've never tasted THIS spinach," Finn said. "One magical leaf gives you the courage to do anything. Swim like a fish, climb like a monkey, even sing like a bird!"
He flipped his tail, and a beautiful green leaf floated to Lily's hand. It sparkled with tiny lights.
Lily's heart beat fast. She wanted to be brave. She wanted to swim and climb and sing. So she closed her eyes and took the smallest bite.
It wasn't yucky at all. It tasted like sunshine and rainbows and happiness!
Suddenly, Lily felt lighter than air. She could feel magic tingling in her toes, her fingertips, her whole body. She jumped into the magical pool and discovered she could swim beautifully, just like Finn!
"You did it!" cheered the goldfish. "You were brave enough to try something new. That's the real magic!"
That night, Lily ate all her spinach at dinner. Because now she knew: the bravest thing you can do is try something new, even when you think you won't like it.
And sometimes, just sometimes, the things we think we'll hate become the most magical surprises of all.
