The Magic Cable Monster
Lily loved exploring her grandma's attic, especially on rainy afternoons when raindrops tapped against the window like tiny fingers. Today, while rummaging through old boxes, she found something peculiar: a thick, black cable coiled like a sleeping snake.
"What's this?" Lily wondered, unspooling the mysterious cord. It seemed to glow with a soft, blue light.
Her dog, Barnaby—a scruffy terrier with one floppy ear—bounded up the attic stairs, barking excitedly. His tail wagged so hard his whole body wiggled. But then Barnaby stopped. His fur stood up, and he growled at the corner behind an old trunk.
Slowly, a figure emerged. It was green and wobbly, with stitched-up patches and buttons for eyes. A zombie! But not a scary zombie—this one wore a polka-dotted bowtie and carried a small watering can.
"Hello!" the zombie said in a friendly, squeaky voice. "I'm Zed! I've been stuck in that corner for fifty years!"
Lily's eyes widened. "You're not scary at all!"
"Of course not!" Zed smiled, his button eyes twinkling. "I'm the gardener zombie! I tend to the magical plants that grow in the walls. But my watering can is empty, and I'm thirsty too."
Lily looked at the glowing cable in her hands, then at Zed, and finally at Barnaby, who was now sniffing Zed's shoes politely.
"I have an idea!" Lily rushed to the bathroom and filled a bucket with water. But the attic was too far to carry it without spilling. Then she remembered the cable.
The cable began to hum and sparkle. When Lily touched it to the bucket, the water flowed through the cable like magic! Clear, sparkling water streamed out the other end, right into Zed's watering can.
"Amazing!" Zed cheered. "This is a magic cable! It appeared the day I got trapped here, but I never knew what it was for!"
Zed watered a small, withered plant behind the trunk. Instantly, it burst into brilliant purple flowers that smelled like cotton candy and sunshine.
"Thank you!" Zed hugged Lily and Barnaby. "Friendship and kindness—that's the real magic. Not everyone would help a zombie."
Lily learned something wonderful that day: sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a little help and friendship. And with Barnaby at her side and Zed as her new friend, the attic became the most magical place in the world.
