The Magic Cable

Lily was eight years old, with messy brown **hair** that always stuck out in crazy directions. She didn't mind—her mom said it showed she had a wild imagination.

One rainy afternoon, Lily was exploring the attic when she found something curious: an old rainbow **cable** that seemed to shimmer in the dusty light. It was tangled around a box labeled "My Old Things."

Inside sat her dad's very first **iPhone**, from when he was a little boy.

"I wonder if it still works," Lily whispered.

She plugged the rainbow cable into the phone. CRACKLE! SPARKLE! The screen lit up with tiny stars swirling around a cartoon goldfish.

"Hello!" a voice squeaked. "Is anyone there?"

Lily gasped. "Who said that?"

"It's me! Goldie the **goldfish**!" The voice bubbled like a happy stream. "I've been trapped in this phone for twenty years! A wizard cast a spell on me. Will you help me?"

Lily's heart pounded. "But how? You're... inside a phone!"

"The magic cable will set me free," Goldie explained. "But only someone truly kind can make it work."

Lily thought about how she always shared her snacks at school, and how she helped her little brother tie his shoes that morning. She gripped the cable tight and whispered, "I believe in magic. And I believe in helping friends."

WHOOSH!

The most amazing thing happened. Goldie swam right out of the phone screen—splash!—into a magical bowl of water that appeared beside her. Her orange scales glowed like tiny pearls.

"Thank you, Lily!" Goldie danced in the water. "Your kindness broke the spell!"

Lily's messy hair suddenly sparkled with golden stardust.

Goldie giggled. "That's my gift to you! Now whenever you help someone, your hair will shine to remind you that magic lives in kindness."

From that day on, Lily noticed something wonderful. Every time she helped a friend, shared a toy, or said something kind, her hair glittered like captured sunshine.

And every night, she'd visit Goldie in her magical bowl, where they'd have adventures in kingdoms under the sea.

Lily learned the best secret of all: you don't need a magic cable or a glowing phone. The real magic was inside her all along—in her kind heart.
