The Magic Baseball Dog
Lily sat alone on her front porch, watching the neighborhood kids play baseball down the street. She wanted to join them, but she was too shy. Her baseball glove rested on her lap, lonely and unused.
Suddenly, something golden flashed in her backyard. Lily jumped up and discovered a baseball glowing like a tiny sun. When she picked it up, the ball felt warm, almost alive. She threw it experimentally—and a fluffy brown dog appeared out of nowhere, caught the ball mid-air, and trotted back wagging his tail.
"I'm Buster!" the dog said cheerfully. Lily gasped. A talking dog!
"You can talk?"
"Only when someone throws the Magic Baseball," Buster explained, dropping the ball at her feet. "And I'm here to help you find your courage. Those kids need a fourth player, and you've got a great arm."
Lily's heart raced. "But what if I mess up?"
Buster nudged her hand with his wet nose. "That's how you learn! Besides, a true friend will help you, not laugh. Now throw!"
She threw the baseball again. Buster bounded after it, then suddenly veered toward the field where the kids played. He dropped the ball right at the feet of a girl named Maya, who picked it up and looked around.
"Who threw this?" Maya called out.
Buster barked and ran back to Lily, then returned to Maya, creating a golden line between them.
"That's your dog?" Maya asked, walking over. "He's amazing! Want to play? We need one more person."
Lily looked down at Buster, who gave her a wink. "Yes!" she said, her voice strong and clear.
That afternoon, Lily made her first friend, hit her first home run, and discovered that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply say "yes." And as for Buster? He appeared whenever the Magic Baseball was thrown—a reminder that courage and friendship were always within reach, just waiting for someone to take the first throw.
