The Magic Baseball Afternoon
Lily loved summer afternoons in her backyard. Her golden dog Buster always trotted beside her, tail wagging like a metronome. Today, something extraordinary happened.
Lily's dad had left his iphone on the patio table. Suddenly, it began to glow with a soft purple light. Out popped a tiny, friendly zombie with green skin and a crooked smile!
"Greetings!" squeaked the little zombie, waving his small hands. "I'm Zippy! I come from the Enchanted Screen to share magic with you!"
Buster barked happily, his tail thumping against the fence. Zippy giggled and reached into his pocket, pulling out a miniature baseball. "Watch this!" he said, tossing the ball.
The baseball grew to normal size and floated in the air. Lily's fluffy cat Mittens, who had been sleeping in a sunbeam, suddenly perked up. Her amber eyes widened with wonder.
"Play ball!" Zippy cheered.
Lily picked up the baseball. It felt warm, like it held sunshine inside. She threw it gently. Buster bounded after it, paws skidding across the grass. Mittens, surprisingly, sprang from her nap and chased after the dog!
They played the most magical game of catch ever. Whenever someone caught the ball, sparkles burst like tiny fireworks. Zippy did happy cartwheels in the air. Even Mittens, who usually hated running, pounced and batted the ball with her paws.
"This is the best day ever!" Lily laughed, spinning around with her arms outstretched.
As the sun began to set, Zippy grew smaller. "I must return now," he said sadly. "But remember this: magic lives wherever friends play together."
He blew Lily a kiss, then popped back into the iphone. The purple light faded.
Lily looked at Buster, who was still wagging his tail. Mittens purred and rubbed against her leg. The ordinary baseball lay on the grass, still warm.
That night, Lily tucked the baseball under her pillow. She knew that tomorrow, when the sun shone again, more magic would be waiting in her backyard. Because the best magic of all, she realized, was sharing adventures with the friends you love.
