The Lonely Zombie's Golden Wish
Lily's cat Whiskers always knew something magical lived in their house. One rainy afternoon, as Whiskers sat watching the glass bowl on the dresser, Bubbles the goldfish did something impossible - she swam to the surface and whispered, "Take me to the pyramid in the attic!"
Lily carried Bubbles in her special traveling water bowl, with Whiskers trotting excitedly beside her. The attic held many treasures, but today, books and pillows had been arranged into a gleaming pyramid shape. Inside the cozy fort, someone was crying.
It was a zombie - but not a scary one. This zombie had bright green patches on his cheeks and wore a colorful patched coat. He looked up with sad, gentle eyes.
"I'm Zombly," he sniffled. "I've been waiting 100 years for someone to visit my pyramid. Everyone runs away when they see me."
Bubbles the goldfish swam forward and spoke in her tiny, musical voice. "We're not running away, Zombly! We came to find adventure - and friends."
Whiskers the cat rubbed against Zombly's leg, purring so loudly the whole pillow pyramid shivered. Zombly's face lit up. No one had ever hugged him before!
"But why are you in my attic?" Lily asked.
"I'm a guardian," Zombly explained. "Long ago, a magician made me protect this special place where lonely children find new friends. I've been waiting for someone kind enough to see past my green skin and stitches."
Lily smiled. "My mom says the best friends are the ones you don't expect to meet."
Every day after school, Lily, Whiskers, Bubbles, and Zombly had adventures in the pillow pyramid. They sailed down imaginary Nile rivers, discovered magical treasures in old boxes, and told stories under flashlight stars.
Lily learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures are the most lonely. And Zombly finally found what he'd waited 100 years for - not just friendship, but a family. Bubbles had granted the best wish of all: a friend who needed her as much as she needed him.
