The Little Sphinx's Big Secret
Leo was the smallest sphinx in all of Egypt. While other sphinxes loved asking tricky riddles to travelers, Leo just wanted to make friends. He lived near a beautiful oasis with tall palm trees that swished in the warm breeze.
One sunny morning, Leo spotted something strange — a bull sleeping under his favorite palm tree. But this wasn't any ordinary bull. His golden horns shimmered, and tiny stars sparkled in his fur.
"Who are you?" Leo whispered.
The bull opened one eye. "I'm Orion, retired spy for the gods. I've spent thousands of years watching over Egypt's secrets." He yawned. "Now I just enjoy the shade."
Leo's eyes grew wide. "A spy? That's amazing! I wish I was special like that."
Orion chuckled. "Little sphinx, every creature has a gift. What's yours?"
Leo looked down. "I'm terrible at riddles. Everyone laughs at me."
Just then, a young girl wandered into the oasis, crying. She was lost and far from home.
The other sphinxes immediately began shouting impossible riddles. "What has legs but cannot walk?" "What goes up but never comes down?" The poor girl only cried harder.
Leo gently approached her. He didn't ask a riddle. Instead, he took her small palm in his paw. "You're scared," he said softly. "But you're brave too. I can see it."
The girl stopped crying. "How did you know?"
"I see it in your palm," Leo said. "And I see something else — you know the way home, don't you?"
The girl nodded. "I do!"
"Then follow your heart," Leo said, "and let the morning sun guide your feet."
The girl thanked him and skipped away, confidently following the sunlight.
Orion nodded approvingly. "You didn't need riddles, Leo. You have the rarest gift of all — you see hearts, not puzzles. That's better than any spy trick I ever learned."
That day, Leo discovered his true purpose. While other sphinxes tested minds, he touched hearts. And sometimes, he whispered ancient secrets into the wind, just like a real spy would.
