The Lightning Who Wanted to Play

friendlightningrunning

Leo loved storms more than anything. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rumbled, Leo pressed his nose against the window, watching the sky dance with brilliant flashes of light.

One rainy afternoon, Leo spotted something peculiar. A tiny spark of lightning had fallen from the clouds and landed in his garden! It wasn't scary at all—it was glowing softly, like a friendly little star that had lost its way home.

"Hello there," Leo whispered, stepping outside carefully.

The little lightning spark danced happily, zigzagging around Leo's feet. It seemed lonely, separated from all the other lightning bolts in the sky.

"Are you lost?" Leo asked.

The spark blinked sadly.

"I'll help you get home!" Leo promised. "But first, would you like to play?"

The spark flashed with joy! Suddenly, Leo understood something magical—this wasn't just any lightning bolt. This was a lightning who wanted a friend.

They spent the afternoon running through Leo's garden, playing tag and hide-and-seek. The spark would zip behind flowers, then peek out giggling in tiny crackles. Leo laughed so hard his stomach hurt.

"You're my best friend," Leo told the spark.

But as evening came, the spark grew dim. It missed its family in the clouds.

Leo had an idea. He climbed to the top of the hill behind his house—the highest point in the whole neighborhood.

"Ready?" Leo asked, holding out his hand.

The spark understood. It merged with Leo, and suddenly Leo felt lighter than air, faster than anything. They began running, but not just normal running—they were running UP the sky, leaving the ground behind!

Higher and higher they went, running through clouds painted pink and orange by sunset. The spark showed Leo the secret path lightning bolts took when they visited Earth.

Finally, they reached the storm clouds. A whole family of lightning bolts was waiting!

The spark flashed goodbye, then joined its family, creating the most beautiful rainbow Leo had ever seen.

"Come visit anytime!" Leo called.

And sometimes, when storms roll through, Leo sees a familiar little spark dancing in the sky, running across the clouds, reminding him that the best friends can find you in the most unexpected places—even falling from the sky.
