The Lightning Water Chaser

waterrunninglightning

Maya loved storms more than anything. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rattled their windows, Maya pressed her nose against the glass, watching the sky dance.

One rainy afternoon, Maya was running through the meadow behind her house. Raindrops splashed against her face like tiny kisses. Suddenly—FLASH! A bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree at the edge of the woods.

Maya froze. Something glimmered in the grass where the lightning had touched the ground. She crept closer, her heart beating like a little drum.

There, pooled in a perfect circle of bent grass, was water. But it wasn't ordinary water. It sparkled with colors—blue like the ocean, gold like sunshine, pink like cotton candy. The water hummed with a soft, tinkling sound, like fairy bells.

"What ARE you?" Maya whispered.

A tiny voice answered, "I'm Lightning Water!"

Maya gasped. The water was speaking!

"Every drop of lightning water holds a wish," the tiny voice said. "But you have to catch it quickly, before it disappears!"

Maya's eyes grew wide. "A wish? Any wish?"

"Any wish at all. But remember—the best wishes are the ones you share."

That night, whenever lightning flashed, Maya was there, running across the meadow, collecting glowing drops in her special jar. By morning, she had twelve sparkling drops of lightning water.

She could have wished for anything—a castle, a flying pony, a room full of toys. But Maya remembered what the water had told her.

Instead, she gave each drop to someone who needed it.

One drop to her grandmother, whose knees hurt when it rained. The old woman danced a little jig!

One drop to her friend Leo, who was scared of the dark. He smiled, his face glowing.

One drop to the stray cat who limped. The cat purred and ran like the wind.

Maya saved the last drop for her little brother, who had been crying because he lost his favorite toy. When he drank the lightning water, he laughed—his toy had been under his bed all along!

Now whenever storms come, Maya runs outside with her jar. And sometimes, if you look very carefully during a lightning storm, you might see her there, dancing in the rain, collecting magic to share with the world.

Because Maya learned something wonderful that day: wishes sparkle brightest when they're given away.
