The Lightning Vitamin

Maya loved sitting under the giant palm tree in her backyard. It was the perfect place to eat her favorite orange slices after school.

One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Maya was eating her orange, a tiny spark twinkled in the juice. She swallowed it, and suddenly her legs felt tingly, like little lightning bolts were dancing inside her knees.

Her friend Leo came running over, looking worried. "Maya! My puppy slipped through the fence! I can't catch him!"

Maya stood up and felt something strange. When she tried to walk, her feet barely touched the ground. ZAP! She zoomed across the yard in a blur of orange light.

"Whoa!" Leo cheered. "How are you doing that?"

"I think..." Maya panted, zooming back and forth. "I think the lightning got into my vitamin C!"

Together, they followed the puppy's paw prints. Maya's new lightning-speed helped her zip ahead, check behind bushes, and circle back to Leo. Within minutes, she found the curious puppy sniffing at flowers three streets away.

"Gotcha!" Maya laughed, scooping him up gently.

That night, Maya's mom tucked her in. "Did you have a good adventure today?"

Maya smiled, holding her secret close. Sometimes, the best things come when you least expect them—like a little bit of lightning in your lunch, and the chance to help a friend.

The next morning, Maya sat under her palm tree again, eating an orange. She waited for the tingle, the spark, the magic. But sometimes, she learned, the most special adventures only happen once. And that's what made them so wonderful.

Besides, she thought, watching Leo and his puppy playing happily, real magic isn't about going fast. Real magic is having friends who need you.
