The Lightning Vitamin

Luna hated mornings. Every day, her mom handed her a orange vitamin gummy. "For strong bones," Mom would say. But Luna wanted magic, not vitamins.

One rainy morning, Luna was running late for school. She grabbed her vitamin, dashed outside into the storm, and—SPLASH—dropped it right into a puddle.

Suddenly, the puddle began to glow. Crackling blue light spiraled up from the water, and POP! A tiny creature appeared, no bigger than Luna's thumb. It had hair made of jagged lightning bolts and skin that shimmered like moonlight on the ocean.

"You freed me!" the creature squeaked, dancing across the water's surface. "I'm Zappy! I've been trapped in that vitamin for three hundred years!"

Luna's eyes went wide. "You were in my vitamin?"

"Lightning gives vitamins their magic!" Zappy explained. "Now I must return to the clouds before I fade away. Will you help me?"

Luna nodded vigorously. Zappy hopped onto her shoulder, and together they went running through the magical rain. Every puddle they passed became a glowing doorway. Through one, they saw mermaids playing in an underwater castle. Through another, dragons were having tea parties.

"Friendship makes the magic stronger," Zappy whispered as Luna's shoulder tingled with warm light. "You're the first person who's ever been kind to me."

They reached the highest hill just as lightning forked across the sky. Zappy grew brighter, filling with golden light.

"Thank you, Luna," Zappy said. "You're the best friend I've ever had."

Zappy soared upward, joining the lightning dance. Luna watched as her new friend became part of something beautiful and endless.

The next morning, Luna took her vitamin without complaining. She smiled, remembering that magic was everywhere—in water, in lightning, in running freely, and especially in friendship. And that was the best vitamin of all.
