The Lightning Vitamin
Lily was the smallest dragon in her whole family, and that made her very sad. While her brothers and sisters could breathe fire hot enough to toast marshmallows from across the room, poor Lily's fire was barely warm enough to heat a cup of tea.
One rainy afternoon, Lily sat at the edge of Dragon Pond, watching her friends go swimming. They dove and splashed, their scales shimmering like rainbow jewels under the gray clouds. "Come in, Lily!" called her best friend Finn, a little blue dragon with freckles. "The water feels wonderful!"
Lily shook her head. "I can't. What if the water puts out my tiny fire completely? Then I'll never be a real dragon."
Finn swam to shore and sat beside her. "My grandmother told me something secret," he whispered. "There's a special lightning vitamin that dragons can find during thunderstorms. It makes your fire stronger!"
Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"
Just then, a brilliant flash of lightning crackled across the sky, followed by a mighty rumble. "Look!" cried Finn, pointing to where the lightning had struck near the old willow tree. "See that glowing stone? That's a lightning vitamin!"
Lily's heart pounded. She'd have to run through the rain and grab it before it disappeared. But what if she was too small? What if she wasn't brave enough?
Then she remembered how sad she'd felt watching everyone else being real dragons. And she remembered Finn swimming all the way across the pond just to bring her hope.
Lily spread her wings and sprinted through the rain, her little feet splashing through puddles. She reached the glowing stone just as it began to fade, and swallowed it whole.
Suddenly, warmth spread through her chest, brighter and bigger than anything she'd ever felt. A tiny flame escaped her mouth—orange and gold and magnificent!
"You did it!" cheered Finn, and together they went swimming in the warm pond, Lily's fire keeping them both cozy.
That night, Lily learned something important: sometimes the smallest dragons have the biggest hearts, and true magic comes from being brave enough to try.
