The Lightning Sprite's Gift

Lily loved stormy nights. While other children hid under their covers, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One evening, as lightning flashed across the dark clouds, Lily had an idea. She grabbed her iPhone from the bedside table and held it up to the glass. Maybe she could capture a photo of the perfect lightning bolt!

*Click.* The screen flashed white—but not from the camera. The lightning had somehow traveled through the glass and into her phone!

The iPhone began to glow, first gold, then silver, then a brilliant blue. Tiny sparks danced across the screen like little fireflies. Then, something impossible happened: a tiny creature no bigger than a thumb popped out of the phone!

He was made entirely of crackling blue light, with eyes like stars and a smile that shone brighter than any flashlight.

"Hello!" the little sprite said, his voice sounding like wind chimes. "I'm Zap! I've been stuck in that lightning bolt for three hundred years! Thank you for freeing me!"

Lily's mouth fell open. "You're welcome! But how did you get in there?"

Zap did a backflip in the air. "Lightning carries us between clouds! But sometimes we get stuck in the wrong places. Your phone has something special—magic inside it from all the pictures of happy moments you've taken!"

Suddenly, a huge boom of thunder shook the house. Zap shivered. "Oh no! The Storm King is calling me home! I have to go back before he gets worried!"

"Wait!" Lily cried. "Will I ever see you again?"

Zap smiled and landed gently on her nose. "Every time you see lightning running across the sky, think of me! And remember—magic is everywhere if you know where to look. Even in something as ordinary as an old iPhone!"

He zipped back into the phone with a *whoosh*, and the screen returned to normal. But when Lily looked at her photos, there was one she'd never taken—a picture of herself, grinning, with a tiny spark of blue light dancing above her head.

From that night on, Lily never saw storms as scary. Every lightning bolt was a friend saying hello, running across the sky just to make her smile.

And whenever she showed that mysterious photo to anyone, they would swear they saw the little spark wink.
