The Lightning Spinach Champion
Maya hated spinach. Every dinner, her plate would have a green mountain of it, and she would push it around with her fork until her mom said, "Just three bites, Maya."
One stormy afternoon, Maya was practicing padel in her backyard with her best friend Leo. The sky turned dark purple, and strange lightning bolts—green instead of white—began crackling down. One bolt zapped straight into Maya's mom's garden!
"Did you see that?" Leo shouted, dropping his padel racket.
Maya ran to the garden and gasped. The spinach patch was glowing! Each leaf sparkled like tiny emerald stars. When she touched a leaf, a warm tingle rushed up her arm, all the way to her fingertips. She felt suddenly strong, like she could jump over the garage!
Maya picked a glowing spinach leaf and took a tiny nibble. CRACKLE! A mini lightning bolt shot from her fingers!
"Whoa!" Leo's eyes went wide. "Try it with your padel racket!"
Maya grabbed her racket and swung at the ball. ZAP! The ball turned into a streak of green lightning and bounced off every surface—fence, garage, tree—before landing perfectly in Leo's hands.
That's when they heard crying. Little Sophie from next door was stuck in her treehouse, terrified by the real storm brewing overhead. The ladder had fallen!
Maya looked at her glowing spinach patch, then at her padel racket. "I have an idea."
She stuffed several glowing leaves into her pocket and climbed the tree. Standing on a branch, Maya wedged her padel racket between the trees and used it as a bridge. Then she took out the magical spinach and squeezed the leaves—WHIZZ! Green lightning wrapped around the racket like a glowing safety rail.
"Walk across, Sophie! It's magical!"
Sophie's eyes grew huge as she stepped onto the glowing padel bridge. The lightning hummed beneath her feet, warm and steady, guiding her safely down to the ground just as the first raindrop fell.
"You saved me!" Sophie hugged Maya. "And you like spinach?"
Maya smiled. "Only the magical kind."
