The Lightning Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved watching storms from her bedroom window. One rainy evening, lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant purple streaks. Something small and golden tumbled down with the lightning bolt, landing right in her garden!

Curious, Lily crept outside with her yellow raincoat. There, shivering under a rosebush, was a tiny sphinx no bigger than her kitten. It had the softest wings and big, worried eyes.

"Are you cold?" Lily whispered, offering her hand.

The sphinx nodded and spoke in a voice like tinkling bells. "I'm Zephyr, a cloud sphinx. The lightning knocked me out of the sky! I need to get home before sunset tomorrow, or I'll turn into stone forever!"

Lily gasped. "I'll help you! But how?"

"I need a spy," Zephyr said seriously. "Someone small and brave to climb the Lightning Tree at the edge of the forest. My family lives at the top, but I'm too weak to fly."

Lily's heart raced. She wasn't very brave, but Zephyr needed her. "I'll be your spy! I'll find the way!"

The next morning, Lily and Zephyr set off. Lily carried the little sphinx in her pocket. When they reached the enormous Lightning Tree, its silver bark shimmered with magic. Lily began climbing, higher and higher, until she could see her whole town below.

"Almost there!" Zephyr squeaked. But suddenly, a branch cracked beneath Lily's feet. She slipped!

Lightning flashed — Zephyr's family had sent help! Lily grabbed a glowing lightning bolt that appeared beside her, and it lifted her safely to the top.

Zephyr's family thanked Lily with gifts of sparkling lightning stones. "For the bravest spy who ever helped a sphinx," they said.

Now whenever storms come, Lily watches for purple lightning. Sometimes, she sees Zephyr dancing among the clouds, forever grateful to the girl who became a spy to save a friend.

Moral: True courage means helping others, even when you're afraid. Friendship can be found in the most unexpected places — even during a lightning storm!
